“Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
At SouthBrook, we believe there are several practices, what we call the Five S’s: solitude, scripture, service, support and significant events, that lead us in knowledge and intimacy with the God who desperately wants to know us. We believe that if you commit to the Five S Journey and put these five habits into practice on a regular basis you will grow closer to God.
One of the Five S’s, SERVICE, is simply loving your neighbor with your time and actions. Everyone has the ability to contribute to our community and beyond by giving their time, energy and resources. But if you still need to be convinced, take a look at all the reasons why we should volunteer and the benefits we’ll reap from the experience:
a chance to meet new people
gives us a sense of purpose
increases empathy
it’s fun
helping others releases feel good chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin
Bible specifically calls us to, a few examples include: 1 Peter 4:10, Acts 20:35, Isaish 58:10, 2 Cor 9:7-8
